Partners in English Language Learning

About Us

 Partners in English Language Learning (formerly the Literacy Council of Nevada County) is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, currrently teaching English language learners in  our region with 40 to 50 trained volunteer tutors. We match each learner with a personal tutor, and they determine hours and location that are mutually agreeable.

Our Mission

 We help English language learners become thriving members of our community by offering one-on-one language tutoring, and building bridges that foster cross-cultural respect,  understanding, and friendship.

Our Vision

 English language gives each individual the voice to be heard in our community.

Lost In A Crowd

Hundreds of Nevada County residents who are not native speakers of English feel lost when asking for directions, reading product labels, filling out job applications, talking to their children's teachers, or making medical appointments. These hard-working, motivated families represent a growing number of adults living in our community, often invisible, who want to learn to improve or refine their English speaking and reading skills.
